It was skiing time in Austria

I just came back from Austria. The primary purpose of the trip was to attend a conference and to present a paper, however, I don’t think in distant future this visit will be remembered for that. I went skiing for the first time. It was a remarkable experience. I looked really cool with the skis, ski-boots, ski-jackets, goggles and cap wrapped around me. It is a fantastic sport. I was amazed to see small kids negotiating sharp bends so easily while I stood ridiculous on a much easier slope, fell down quite a few times when trying to turn which were not at all deep, evoked giggles in the fellow skiers and so on. But anyway, when I think back I find that it was too much of an expectation on my part to ski like an expert on the first attempt. More so when, by a stroke of ill luck, I twisted my ankle heavily the day before the skiing day. Now imagine that, with a large swelling on a weak ankle, you put on those heavy ski-boots with all other appendages, go to the mountain slope and eventually expect that you will be able to throw a stiff challenge to all other experienced skiers. Grow up.
